The collaboration between Lucia and Merz b. Schwanen was born from a shared dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and a neighborly friendship formed on Canal Street.
Lucia’s story began over 40 years ago when Salvatore Carlino’s parents opened Papa Leone’s Pizza in Brooklyn. Inspired by his family’s legacy, Salvatore later launched Lucia, named after the Latin word for “light,” reflecting his vision for a healthier, more thoughtful take on the classic New York slice.
This vision closely aligns with Peter and Gitta’s mission at Merz b. Schwanen, where they revived heritage production methods and a factory dating back to 1911, honoring traditional craftsmanship while creating the highest-quality basics.
By blending our distinct yet complementary traditions, we’ve created a collection that embodies authenticity, care, and a deep respect for the details that make something truly special.
