While I hardly ever like to admit, I have to say, I think my parents were right. After years and years of complaining about the socks stuffed into my Christmas stocking, I can now say that it was a great gift. I was just too young and dumb to realize it. Instead, I huffed and puffed about how boring those argyle socks were and how I would have much rather preferred they spend their money on new Pokemon cards for me, thank you very much.
Now, after hitting 30 and with a bit of extra cash to spend, I’m reevaluating my own closet and realizing how a few nice pairs of socks that didn’t come from a six-pack from Macy’s might just be the future for upping my style game and giving me a bit more comfort, too.
Sorry mom and dad. You were right. I was wrong. Don’t rub it in.
Instead of treating socks as throwaway essentials, I began thinking of them like any other part of an outfit. Something that could actually reflect personal style. To keep the search focused, I came up with three simple criteria: fit, fabric, and style.
Merz b. Schwanen Striped Merino Wool Socks
Merz b. Schwanen hangs its hat on making better versions of your closet staples, and their merino wool socks prove the point. The merino adds extra breathability for all-day comfort, while the chunky silhouette and striped detailing give them a retro vibe that looks just right slouched over your favorite New Balances.
