At Merz b. Schwanen, we believe quality can only be achieved through dedication to tradition and craftsmanship. For over a century, we’ve honed our craft through timeless methods and purposeful design. Like our loopwheel shirts crafted on century-old machines, every product tells a story of German craftsmanship.

That same philosophy led us to Blue Swan—our first venture into winemaking, created in partnership with Roterfaden. Limited to just 900 bottles, this white skin-contact blend of Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Muskateller (Muscat) pours a light golden hue with a fresh, piquant nose of saline and dewy florals. On the palate, it’s crisp, lightly textured, and hydrating—all at 10% ABV.

Meaning “Red Thread,” the name reflects how our winemaking partners connect tradition and innovation within the German wine industry. Οlympia Samara and Hannes Hoffmann farm four hectares of vineyards planted on steep blue limestone terraces in the villages of Mühlhausen and Roßwag, part of the 175 hectares in this Swabian region. As the only estate in their village to bottle their own wines, their Demeter-certified estate works organically and biodynamically, practicing low-intervention winemaking—natural skin fermentation, no additives, and minimal sulfur.

This relationship wouldn't have been possible without the team at Vom Boden. Thanks to them, we were able to connect with Roterfaden and discover our shared passion for craftsmanship and authenticity.

Like our garments, Blue Swan is rooted in tradition. Grapes are hand-harvested in woven baskets, crushed by foot, and fermented naturally on the skins for five days in seasoned oak barrels—nothing added, nothing taken away.

Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur, it reflects both a sense of place and a commitment to process. Grown biodynamically on steep blue limestone terraces in the Swabian villages of Mühlhausen and Roßwag, our wine is an invitation to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life still left to be discovered.
